Francesca, I’m not likely to be able to do much preparation for the seedgroup until after the summer solstice – but you never know. If you have already written something on yews I’d be interested to have a look, so feel free to email it to me. I don’t think it matters at all if it includes some stuff we already know, as people are at all different stages, and different things have significance at different times. And speaking for myself, although I have spent time with yew a little, I would in no sense regard myself as an ‘expert’. Anyway, I’ll continue this conversation by email.

Hi Daniel – I know it’s looking ahead a bit but I was wanting to talk to you about the August seedgroup as I’m going to be away most of July. What kind of thing should we do? I have done some research on yew trees so I could write something maybe? Or have all you Ovates already done lots of thinking about yews so you would know most of the stuff I’d find out?!

Thanks so much for offering! Are you absolutely sure you want to lend it though? It does sound very personal to you, so you might feel differently about it once other people have handled it, even after re-consecration. Daniel is just waiting to hear back from Liz at present to confirm that the 19th is definitely OK.

Hi Lorraine – I don’t have a sword, but I do have a decent-sized (about a foot altogether) athame. It’s made of (sharp) steel, with a bronze and East Anglian bog oak handle. It was made for me specially, by one of the makers at Witchfest a couple of years ago, and no-one else has touched or even seen it since I bought and consecrated it. I usually just use it in my own rites and that’s all, but I’ve been thinking that I would lend it and welcome if you can’t find an actual sword, and that I’d just re-consecrate it afterwards when I want to use it again myself. Only problem is getting it to you. You know all the problems I have, and I’ve only managed to negotiate being involved in the Ankerwyke Yew outing in August by saying I will go to nothing else till then. But if you did need my athame I could come and meet you somewhere or other to give it you. So let me know if you need it and we’ll arrange it, because I would be happy to lend it.

A family thing has come up that means I can’t actually be there for the Summer Solstice. So I won’t be able to help Liz out. Can you do it, Daniel? Or Mark? It is a fairly simple ceremony that doesn’t need as many props as Beltain.
