Meet at 3pm at Theydon Bois tube car park. From there we’ll walk 10 mins to Theydon Plain, where we will look for a good place to have the ritual.

Afterwards we may retire to the nearby Sixteen String Jack pub for a complementary kind of celebration.

Please call Andrew a few days in advance, so we have an idea of numbers his mobile number is 07798 665892.

If anyone can bring a nice earthenware pitcher and/or bowl, please post a comment.

We look forward to seeing you there.

  1. I would be happy to run / write the ceremony as I haven’t done this one yet. Any takers to help? Also, Epping Forest would be good at this time. Trui and me found a really nice spot when we originally reckied the place.

  2. Mark,
Andrew & Hilde have already volunteered to do this one (see ‘Planning Ahead’ topic) unless you all feel like swapping around of course! We don’t have a co-volunteer for the summer solstice with Liz, or any volunteers yet for the Autumn Equinox or Samhain. Would any of those be good for you?

  3. Yes, Andrew and I volunteered for this one, and we are seriously considering having it in/under the eaves of Epping Forest.
The only thing that is stopping me from making that official is that it is a very long way for me to go. I would like to just do the trip once to see how long it takes. I just haven’t got around to it yet, and won’t for a little while since I’m leaving for camp today.
But Mark, if you can let me know where exactly this nice spot is, I’d like to go and have a look. And if you really would like to organise this one, and later ones are not convenient for you, I wouldn’t mind handing my part over to you.

  4. Epping is still the plan. If you could give us some general guidance as to where your sweet spot is I’d love to go and hunt for it in the next few weeks. My recollection of the forest is that there is a large meadow on the edge as you walk from Theydon Bois station, but I cannot conjure a clear image in my mind to tell me whether it is sufficiently secluded. My only clear recollection of the site is lying down in the long grass on a summer’s afternoon a few years ago and then discovering I had been bitten quite enthusiastically by the local fauna.

  5. Does anyone have an email address for Anna (or Anna - if you’re reading this, could you please email me: brennand@gmail.com )? I’m trying to get in touch with the Corporation of London to ask about access to Epping Forest for the Lughnasadh ceremony, and I hear that Anna has been in touch with them previously. Obviously we’ll have a better chance if I can speak to someone who has heard from us before, so a name, email or phone number would be very useful! If I don’t hear anything in the next few weeks I will just contact the enquiries address on their website.

  6. I’ve sent our request to the Corporation of London and now we’ll have to wait a week or so before we hear back. Thanks to Trui for letting me know who to contact and what details to send! When do we need to post time and rendezvous locations in order to hit the paper Raven?

  7. I would be grateful if you can have it sorted by, say, 16 July so that the Raven can go out before I go to Belgium in the next week.
Thanks for doing all the work, Andrew. You’re a hero!

  8. Our license from the Corporation of London came through today, so we now have a piece of paper that says we can perform our Lughnasadh ritual in Epping Forest (hurrah!). I plan to walk the route a final time in early July and will post final details for gathering here sometime prior to w/c July 12th. Currently I’m thinking we should either meet just outside Theydon Bois station, or perhaps outside the “Sixteen String Jack” pub. Will investigate the car parking situation and report back.

  9. Excellent. That was a lot quicker than it could have been. Thanks again, Andrew, you’re still a hero!

And while I’ve got you here anyway, is the Beltane miracle still doing OK?

    Comment by hilde — 12/6/2005 @ 10:17 pm

  10. Ah the Beltane miracle! It worked well. In fact it worked a bit *too* well. Twins! We’ve had a couple of scans now and have seen their hearts beating. You never know though, and it’s early days (week 10). I don’t think I’ll stop worrying until they can throw that Beltane stone we received in the ceremony back into the sea at Brighton *themselves*. In fact that’s what I’m going to do… so it will be a few years before that pebble is returned to the sea :-).

  11. Ah, the sleepless nights have begun early! Great news Andrew.

  12. I’m sorry to disappoint you, Andrew. You’ll NEVER stop worrying! ;)

  13. Do we know where we’re meeting yet?

    Comment by hilde — 3/7/2005 @ 9:03 pm

  14. A recent investigation suggests that the carpark at the “Sixteen String Jack” pub gets quite full around Sunday lunchtime, so I propose we met at 3pm in Theydon Bois tube carpark instead. It’s a brisk 10 minute walk to Theydon Plain, and the area of woodland we have a license for is just on the edge of the Plain. I have not narrowed the location of the ritual down to the nearest tree - I suggest we have a mooch about on the day. There are quite a few paths criss-crossing the land, but it seems very quiet. We can retire to the “Sixteen String Jack” for post-ritual Druid Fluid. Feel free to publish these details in the paper Raven, and ask people to call my mobile (07798 665892) prior to the Sunday so we can get an idea of numbers. Suggest the two of us correspond on the details of paraphenalia and print-outs.

  15. Thank you Andrew. I think I’ve got the parafernalia pretty much covered. Do you have a nice earthenware pitcher and bowl (not too large) sitting around anywhere? Does anyone who intends to come? Otherwise I think we’re fine.
I’ll turn this into a proper event announcement tomorrow. And I’ll e-mail you then as well.
