Sorry I won't be there but I am in the middle of Thoroughly Modern Millie at the moment. However, there was some talk about holding a ceremony on the bank of the Thames and I was asked if I could look into some likely sites near to where I live.

I looked at several, and the most likely seemed to be Crayford Ness which is near the estuary of the River Darent into the Thames. If you look in the AtoZ, find Slade Green Station and from the east side follow Moat Lane until it goes into Crayford Marshes, then follow the river until it joins the Thames. The walk there took me about twenty minutes when I looked around the area a few weeks ago.

Being part of a riverside walk, I did see a few people going by so it is not totally un-secluded but there were far from being hordes of people, though I cannot guarantee there won’t be the odd passer-by. There are gates on to the path so we should not be disturbed by kids riding up and down on motorbikes at least.

I think it may be best to save this site for a Spring or Summer ceremony next year – I did also wonder if we could co-inside the ceremony with either high-tide or low-tide depending on what we feel best.

I thought as part of the ceremony we could put little offerings to the Spirit of Tamesis onto a small raft and set it off into the flow of the river, but that can be decided nearer to the time.

Let me know what you think - I will be happy to organise it if someone is willing to help me.

Hope all goes well on Saturday.

Best wishes

The venue will be the main Foyer of the Queen Elizabeth Hall (also known as "The Front Room"). There is a bar there and tables, and as far as I can tell there are no events on in the foyer itself on the chosen date so we ought to have some quiet.

It might help if you bring a pen and some paper.

Nearest tube/rail station is Waterloo (Northern/Bakerloo/Jubilee). Follow signs to the Royal Festival Hall and/or South Bank Centre. If you find yourself by the river at the lowest level (i.e. on the true river bank) then take stairs upwards between MDC and Giraffe, turn left, pass the fountain and enter the Queen Elizabeth Hall building at that level (bar to your left, tables straight ahead. We will occupy tables as necessary. Or there is another set of stairs opposite the Festival Pier, which lead directly to the Queen Elizabeth Hall foyer entrance.
